Delco-Remy Exhibit at Madison County Historical Society
2016
This page added 5-18-2020.
In 2016, the Madison County Historical Society had a special three month
long exhibit on the history and products of the former Delco-Remy
Division of General Motors in Anderson, IN. This was the work of
many hard working volunteers at the society. The lead volunteer on
the display was retired Delco-Remy employee Bill Knepp. While the
display at the historical center was limited in time, I was able to
photograph the displays which can now be viewed on this webpage.
All photos are by the
author.
The exhibit occupied several different rooms
at the historical center. The photos here show the displays on a
wall-by-wall format. Many of the display items on exhibit were
saved by employees as Plant 18 shut down in 2003.
The model of the Delco-Remy tractor trailer
on top of the right display case was one of many that Nylint produced
for different General Motors divisions. I have a Delco-Remy
tractor trailer model in my personal collection.
This display case had engineering samples
and production models of Delco-Remy distributors.
This display had alternators and cranking
motors.
This sign, I believe, came out of the Plant
One lobby.
The second room had the Delco-Remy "E" flag
and other World War Two memorabilia on display. For the complete
story on the "E" flag, please visit my page dedicated to this important
production award. Delco-Remy "E"

This wall had pages from "Our War Job,"
which detailed Delco-Remy's helping to win World War Two.
The third room had displays of early
Delco-Remy products, photos, and memorabilia.
The Delco-Remy magnetos on display here are
rare today. These are of the original product lines built by the
Remy Brothers.
This display has several historic parts in
it including a cranking motor, ignition coil, and a distributor.
One of the rare automobile gauges built by Delco-Remy is shown on the
top shelf next to the cranking motor.
Plant photos were on this wall.
This wall continued with the plant photos
and then provided information on the Klaxon horn.
The display case on the left has a
collection of service parts and several of the different types of
packaging used over the years. On the right is an excellent
display of Delco-Remy horns.
